One Thing I Underestimated When Starting a Luxury Brand

When I started building House of Lumiriam, I assumed the product itself would be the hardest part.
Creating the right fragrance.Choosing the right materials.Designing jewelry that felt elevated, distinctive, and timeless.
And while all of that takes an incredible amount of thought, testing, and refinement, I quickly realized something else:
The product is only one part of the experience.
Luxury Lives in the Details
A beautiful product can immediately lose some of its impact if everything surrounding it feels disconnected.
The packaging.
The photography.
The website.
The way an order arrives.
The way a customer is spoken to.
The story behind the product.
Even the smallest visual detail can influence how someone experiences a brand.
That was something I underestimated early on.
I thought that if the product was exceptional, the rest would naturally fall into place.
It does not.
Consistency Is Harder Than Creativity
Creating one beautiful moment is relatively easy.
Creating a brand where every moment feels connected is much harder.
The jewelry needs to feel like it belongs to the same house as the fragrance.
The fragrance should feel consistent whether someone discovers it through a candle, personal fragrance, car fragrance, or whole-home scent.
The packaging has to support the same feeling as the product inside it.
The website, photography, customer service, and presentation all need to communicate the same level of care.
That consistency is what begins turning individual products into a recognizable brand.

The Customer Experiences Everything
As a founder, it is easy to focus heavily on what is being created.
But customers experience much more than the product.
They experience the first photograph they see.
The words used to describe it.
The box they open.
How quickly a question is answered.
How the product looks sitting in their home or worn on their body.
And ultimately, all of those moments influence whether they remember the brand and whether they come back.
Building House of Lumiriam
For me, House of Lumiriam has always been about creating more than individual products.
It is about creating a feeling.
Whether someone discovers us through fine jewelry or fragrance, I want there to be a sense of warmth, sophistication, detail, and intention behind the experience.
And that means constantly asking:
Does this feel like us?
Does this represent the level of quality we want associated with our name?
Would I be proud for this to be someone's first experience with House of Lumiriam?
Building a luxury brand has taught me that excellence is rarely one big decision.
It is hundreds of small decisions made consistently.
And I think that may be one of the hardest and most rewarding parts of building something people truly remember.
For other founders and business owners: what part of building your brand turned out to be much harder than you expected?
